all in a name

With the ultrasound just around the corner...we are baby name central this morning. And the best part? We are agreeing on just about every name. We've got about 5 0r 6 names for each sex that we are loving...

We are quite picky (as is any parent) when it comes to naming our children, because the name needs to have significance. If you watch the way children were named in the Bible and even in Native American cultures, the name of a child spoke a certain characteristic or blessing over the child.

example: Jesus: Jehovah is generous, Jehovah saves "because he will save their people from their sins".

example: from Genesis 38:27-30: "When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb. 28 As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, "This one came out first." 29 But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out, and she said, "So this is how you have broken out!" And he was named Perez. [a] 30 Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist, came out and he was given the name Zerah. [b]"
Perez means breaking out .
Zerah can mean scarlet or brightness .

Abraham & Sarah named their son Isaac, which means "laughter"...remember their reaction when God told them they would have a son in their advanced years? Sarah laughed!

example: Hannah, who was barren, named her long awaited son Samuel, which means, 'heard by God' "Because I asked the LORD for him." 1 Samuel 1:20"

Its strange how often a person's name coincides with their personality or life circumstance.
Aron Paul Kirk: "exalted little churchdweller". I doubt his parents realized how true this name would be when they named him March 4, 1984.
Erica Jean: "honorable ruler, the lord is gracious". My hubby might agree with the ruler part...sometimes!!
Isabelle Rose: "consecrated to the lord, beautiful flower"

We didn't decide Isabelle's name until we were in the delivery room. I think we'll have this one figured out much sooner.

I looked up ya'lls name meanings yesterday when you posted about suggesting a baby name. When I looked up Aron's it said the Hebrew meaning was "singing & teaching" and for Erica I found "always ruler". I liked that one!

All of my kids' names were picked based upon their meanings. I wouldn't even consider a name if the meaning was off.

I've already got my "fun" picks for names for Tuesday, and it's funny because I picked them for 2 reasons and one was the meaning. So hopefully I WILL REMEMBER!

I LOVED picking names out for our potential babies. And eac of the girl's names have very special meanings and stories behind them, which have just gotten better with time.

I know that Baby Kirk will have a great name with a lot of meaning behind it!

Love you!!!

I think that name meanings are very important.

Charles, our son, is named after my grandfather. It means "strong" which is nice, but in this case it was more about the person and not the meaning.

Abigayle, however, means "Father's Joy" and we felt this was extremely fitting as she was the little girl my husband wanted so badly. And she really is her father's joy. ♥
